fast track gcse success- 1 year courses for international students
GCSEs are the exams UK students take at the end of their secondary education, normally at the age of 16. Some international students opt to enter a standard two year GCSE course at RIC but others choose the one year intensive course which allows for the GCSEs to be completed in a shorter time scale and prepares students well for A levels. it is usual for students to join this course if they are older than 14-16, the usual age for GCSE study. This pre A level year also serves as an ideal option for those who need to improve their English before starting A levels. However, for some students it is possible to embark on A level study in combination with GCSE or to add GCSE to the first year of a two year A level course. before starting A levels.
Students join our one year GCSE courses directly from international schools, including those where they have been following IGCSEs or the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme in Year 10. All subjects are comprehensively retaught and we do not depend on coursework completed or syllabus material covered at other schools in Year 10. Because of this changes in examination board are possible.
The one year GCSE programme also allows international students to integrate smoothly into the UK education system and can be combined with English language support if required.
Students at the end of a one year GCSE programme at RIC are well placed to proceed to A levels in our sixth form, the best preparation for entry to good UK universities.
RIC is an international community and this makes for a very vibrant and colourful atmosphere. Vicky Zhang from China, Elena Ebner from Germany and Konstantin Yun from Kazakhstan are amongst our recent Overseas students following GCSE courses. GCSE students have come to RIC from as far afield as Malawi, South Korea, Mozambique, the USA and Canada, Latvia, Germany, Nigeria and Russia.
