get on top form- transfer for a levels at kent’s leading independent sixth form college

Sixth form should be the most exciting years of secondary education and many switch schools to help prepare for university.

Independent sixth forms offer small classes, structured tutorial support and high quality UCAS advice. With university fees rising and interest in US and European options increasing it’s vital students have A level results that unlock the widest range of higher education choices.

Brother and sister John and Laura from Beckenham are both Rochester Independent College sixth formers. Laura is a weekly boarder, staying in a campus en suite room. There are rising numbers of local students choosing this option. Chairman of the Boarding Schools Association, Richard Harman says:” It prepares youngsters for living away from home but in a structured way with appropriate pastoral support. Boarding schools act as an effective bridge to university.”

Laura’s brother John chose to be a day student and takes a daily 20 minute train journey from Bromley South to Rochester. Also attractive are extra curricular and enrichment opportunities. Laura travelled to Malawi and Zambia last summer with RIC doing community work and expeditions. John and his band Deadzone are regular performers at RIC concerts and festivals that are programmed and organised by the students themselves.

RIC alumni have been welcomed everywhere from Central St Martins to the Royal Veterinary College, from local institutions like the University of Kent to the Ivy League. A record three high fliers hold offers this year from one Cambridge College- Trinity. The Independent Schools Council says: “Parents choose independent sixth forms because their pupils achieve outstanding results at A level and we have seen nothing to suggest the picture is changing.”
