“We spent a great deal of time searching for a place with the right sort of ethos and opportunities for our daughter. Your website certainly does a good job of presenting what the college offers but we must admit that we had steeled ourselves for a disappointment. However, the reverse was true – we were truly impressed by the flexibility and personal scale of things. Most importantly, of course, was that your students sell the college by their level of engagement and obvious confidence and enjoyment in what they are doing.”

a small co educational school with small classes

RIC’s Lower School has up to sixty students in years 7-10 aged 11-15. Student needs are clearly recognised and focused upon in a small school setting. In class sizes that average 8 and never exceed 12 students are better known and relationships between teachers and children- and children with each other- prosper. Individual attention in all subjects is not only always available, but practically inescapable. A smaller school size allows more opportunity for our teachers to work closely together and share information. It allows us to provide an unparalleled level of feedback to parents with regular reports and an open door policy.

an unstuffy school that is high performing but not academically selective

Ofsted celebrates the standard of education and quality of teaching at RIC as well as the behaviour of our children as “outstanding.” There is no school uniform and everyone is on first name terms. Believing that everyone who works hard can do well, we do not have entrance exams yet our results rival the most selective schools.

a lively school with a talented, caring team of teachers and support staff

The strength of any school is the quality of its staff. At RIC there is very little turn over, ensuring consistency for children. Our teaching style is positive, enthusiastic and encouraging. Ofsted say: “The quality of teaching and assessment is outstanding. Working relationships are very good and teachers and students enjoy each other’s company. Teachers and students work within an atmosphere of mutual understanding, respect and consideration.”

an academic school with a flexible and engaging curriculum

We follow the National Curriculum but aim to tailor it to the interests of our students. Physics, Biology and Chemistry are taught as separate subjects by specialist teachers and those with scientific aptitude are prepared for the demanding IGCSE Science qualifications. German, Spanish and French are all offered. Beyond the core academic lessons there is a particular focus on creative and arts subjects, including Drama, Music, Photography, Media, Fashion and Art and Design. Emphasised across the curriculum and central to the ethos are environmental issues in both local and international contexts.

Homework is set regularly but we aim for a sensible balance between school and family life. After a busy day many of our children pursue a range of outside hobbies and interests which we encourage. We do not teach on Saturdays.

a happy, coeducational school that is about so much more than examination results

Children at RIC benefit from what Ofsted describes as, “outstanding spiritual, moral and cultural development.” They enjoy a colourful range of sports and clubs. They are served great school meals and help plan their own exciting and innovative trips. Music, Art, Film and Drama, both in and out of the classroom, give a creative buzz.

a school that is easy to reach from different parts of Kent and beyond

RIC runs its own minibus services from Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Maidstone, West Malling and Kings Hill. We are directly opposite Rochester railway station and 30 mins from Bromley South, 20 mins from Stratford and 40 mins from St Pancras or Victoria.
