We were blown away by RIC on our first visit. It was clear from the moment we walked through the door that the staff here really ‘get’ teenagers. The excellence of what you’re doing – and the integrity; passion; pragmatism and good humour with which you appeared to be doing it – convinced us it was the right place for our son. Four years later as he is about to start his GCSE year we’re so glad we made the move.

Supporting Students

Lower School

Our students frequently comment that they have never been happier at school. Their academic success and personal and social development follows naturally from this. A supportive team of tutors ensures that all students are seen regularly on an individual basis as well as twice daily in form time to monitor their academic and social progress.

I would like to take the opportunity to say a very big thank you to RIC for educating my daughter from the age of 11 through to 18. Your school has nurtured and educated her to an extremely high standard. The care and understanding she received from everyone from the catering staff to the Principals was amazing. Thank you so much for helping to create such a beautiful, challenging, witty and intelligent young woman who is now so readily embracing university.

The college provides excellent support and guidance which enhances students’ personal development. It is highly successful in its aim to develop self-knowledge and self-esteem. Personal sixth-form tutors are highly effective and play a key role in maximising students’ development. Boarders are well cared for and thrive in the caring, pleasant environment. They greatly enjoy their boarding experience.

Sixth Form

Academic progress and personal welfare is closely monitored by Personal Tutors. Year 13 level students have individually timetabled meetings with their tutor to discuss progress. Year 12 students have daily meetings with their form tutors.

Our teaching and pastoral staff are pro active, identifying where students are having difficulties and offering practical help, solutions and encouragement.

Tutors file regular reports on students and these are emailed to parents giving constant feedback. An end of term report should never contain surprises for either students or their parents. The College operates an ‘open door’ policy and parents feel free to come and see, telephone or email Personal Tutors and the Principal to discuss any issue concerning them.

Michaela

I went to a local grammar school but when I reached the sixth form I did one term before starting to have anxiety attacks. It was such a pressurised environment, I always felt that I was doing things wrong. I decided to look for a school that could offer me a one year intensive A level course and a fresh start. I started at RIC and I was very, very nervous. I don’t think I concentrated properly for the first few weeks but I was much more comfortable with the very small classes. I thought that trying to do everything in one year would be really difficult but the teachers were inspiring. I loved the debates in history, I felt really involved and it really helped my confidence. My personal tutor was great but all my teachers showed an interest and checked I was OK.

Boarding

Our boarding staff live on site and are available 24/7 to monitor and support students, helping with any needs or concerns.

As well as looking after academic needs everyone at RIC is committed to ensuring everyone is kept happy, healthy, safe and well fed.

Staff ensure new students from overseas are picked up from the airport, welcomed and shown around Rochester and the College. They are introduced to current students who act as friends and buddies on first arrival. The start of term barbecue in the College gardens is always a popular event in the first week of term. We help with all the practical details of becoming a student in the UK such as opening a bank account and using public transport.

Our nurse ensures that all students register locally with a doctor and have access to medical care and students also have access to an independent listener.
