The Tutors
Tania Virdie
The English / VR course will be led by Tania Virdie, Head of Schools, Teaching and Learning at JK Educate. She has worked at JK Educate for over 10 years.
Tania brings extensive experience of primary education, having gained a PGCE from the University of Cambridge and taught for over 25 years in a range of outstanding primary schools, as well as having been a Deputy Head Teacher. She is in great demand as an 11+ tutor and has successfully supported students for many years both in London, Kent and surrounding areas in achieving offers from top grammar and independent schools. Her passion is English and VR where she enjoys demystifying some of the 11+ concepts and builds confidence, through clear strategy and technique, empowering students. Her lessons and revision courses provide challenge and support, but also great encouragement and positivity.
In addition, through her role of Head of Schools at JK Educate, Tania has a strong understanding of what each school is testing and up to date resource information, enabling students to achieve the very best possible outcomes.
She is a teacher who is in great demand and we are delighted that Tania is leading the English / VR elements of this bespoke course, sharing her expertise with students, in preparation for the Kent / Medway 11+ exams.
Jacob Conway
Jacob Conway, Senior Tutor and Maths Specialist at JK Educate will be leading the Maths / Non Verbal Reasoning / Spatial Reasoning course. He has worked at JK Educate for over 8 years.
Jacob is a qualified maths teacher with degrees from Sheffield University and a PGCE from Kings College, London. He has vast experience teaching maths / reasoning at 11+ and also teaches up to A Level, giving him a strong awareness of progression, able to make the most challenging concepts understandable for students. Jacob thrives on bringing maths alive, building confidence and ensuring students are well prepared for entrance exams, understanding how to tackle some of the hardest mathematical concepts. His students have successfully achieved places in all the top private and grammar schools in the London and Kent /Medway areas. GCSE and A Level students have consistently exceeded their predicted grades, including students receiving grade 9 at GCSE and A* at A Level.
As Maths Specialist for JK Educate, Jacob is very aware of what schools are testing, working closely with tutors, ensuring students are well prepared for all eventualities, whatever the 11+ paper presents.

Kent test: Maths, English and Reasoning – Non Verbal Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Spatial Reasoning
Sessions on Maths, English and Reasoning – Non Verbal Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Spatial Reasoning as well as Top Tips and opportunities for Reflection
- Maths – focusing on GL style questions, including some more challenging topics and extension questions, applying maths skills to different contexts. Focus on timing and strategy.
- English – focusing on GL style questions – looking at different comprehension style questions from a range of texts, identifying sentences with missing words and spotting the mistake in a sentence. Focus on strategy and technique to identify the best word and find errors. Writing – focus on different genres, effective planning and how to create a piece of writing when under time constraints.
- Reasoning – focusing on GL style questions for NVR, VR and Spatial Reasoning - focus on tricky questions and working on strategies for successful answers
- Exam Technique – sharing top tips and mindfulness exercises to navigate the exam process and remain confident, even when under pressure!
Medway Test - 26 July 2023
Medway test includes Maths, NVR, VR and Extended Writing. Sessions on Maths, Writing and Verbal Reasoning and Comprehension as well as Top Tips, exam strategies and opportunities for reflection.
- Maths – focusing on GL style questions, including some more challenging topics and extension questions, applying maths skills to different contexts. Focus on timing and strategy.
- Reasoning – focusing on GL style questions –Focus on strategy and
technique when solving a range of different NVR / VR style questions as well as looking at different comprehension style questions which may come up in the Verbal Skills part. - Writing – focus on different genres fiction and non-fiction, effective planning and how to create a piece of writing when under time constraints, importance of spelling, punctuation and grammar.
- Exam Technique – sharing top tips and mindfulness exercises to navigate the exam process and remain confident, even when under pressure!

Rochester Campus
All courses are taught at our school in Rochester.
Founded in 1984, Rochester Independent College is a day and boarding school offering a fresh alternative to traditional independent education for students from the age of 11 to 19 and boarders from 13.
